  2. It is important to use proper office and personal hygiene to protect yourself and the patient as well as for good practice management.  Patients do not want to come to an office that is not clean or have someone that has not washed their hands put lenses on their eyes.

  4. Be sure the counter tops, sinks and all equipment is clean.  Routinely wash down areas with a disinfecting solution.

  6. Wash your hands in the presence of the patient prior to touching the contact lenses and the patient.

  8. Use a mild non-abrasive unperfumed soap
  9. that does not contain hand creams.   
  10. Hydrogel  contact lenses can absorb 
  11. substances from your hands which may 
  12. cause ocular irritation to the patient.  
  13. Rigid lenses may become coated with 
  14. substances from some soaps which prevent 
  15. the tear film from forming on the lens surface.

  17. It is best to use a soap in the office 
  18. marketed for use with contact lenses.
